Drug Testing
Reasons for drug testing
Pre-Employment Drug Testing
- Some employers require their employees to be screened
for drugs before commencing employment. This sort
of testing is common in law enforcement, large vehicle
transport and military organizations.
For-Cause Drug Testing
(Reasonable Suspicion) - Testing for drugs when somebody
suspects that a person may be using or have used drugs;
such as a parent that suspects one of their children.
Periodically Announced
- Occassionally an employer will announce that they
are going to perform a routine physical and/or drug
test.
Post-Accident - Testing
that occurs after an accident occurs to determine
whether the accident was caused by the driver being
inhebriated.
Rehabilitation Monitoring
- This type of testing occurs when somebody that has
previously used drugs and has gone through a recovery
program to determine if the person has stayed clean.
Safety-Sensitive Responsibilities
- People that operate large machinery or work in a
position that affects the saftey of others are often
required to take drug testing.
